How am I sure I’m going to Heaven?

Untitled-1

You are not alone; the same question pops up in my mind very often. I wonder if I am living right enough to make Heaven. I will answer this question based on my experience with God, but before I do, let’s look at what qualifies anyone to make it to Heaven.

  • You must believe and accept God’s son Jesus into your life as your Lord (John 3:16).
  • God wants you to forsake a life of sin and live for Him daily. He wants us to live a holy life (1 Peter 1:15-17) because no uncleanliness will get to Heaven (Revelation 21:27).

Let’s focus on 1 Peter 1:15-16 a little bit. It says, “but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.  Also see Matthew 5:48, “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in Heaven is perfect.”

Perfect? How can we be perfect? We are nowhere near perfect and cannot say we live a complete holy life. This is where the doubts come in. This is what brings the fear to our minds of whether we will make it to Heaven or not. The battle between the spirit and the flesh is unending and we already know that no sinner will be allowed into Heaven.

When one considers how hard it is to live a holy life, I bet many would have concluded that it is impossible to make it to Heaven. I agree with them; it is impossible to make Heaven by your own strength. It is impossible to overcome the flesh and sin by human strength. As long as we live, we will always have sin and temptation to fight against.

We cannot earn our way into Heaven by being good. This is why God sent His perfect Son; it is through Christ that righteousness, power, and new life is given to us through His blood, His death on the cross, and His resurrection from the grave. So, the foundation of righteousness for every believer has already been laid and we are required to build on it. Matthew 11:22 says, “From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force.”

I have experienced that as long as you are willing, God works in every believer who yields to Him. He will build you into a masterpiece. He will scold you, warn you, forgive you, and love you.

I want you to keep that in your mind. This truth is what gives me peace anytime I have the fear of not making it to Heaven. God does not want anyone to perish. He didn’t create us all to go to hell. His plan is for us to fellowship with Him. Sin brought separation, yet God restored us to Himself through His Son. God did not give up on us. So, if God did all of this for us to be with Him, why would He watch you and me go to hell? He wants us to choose Him and then wait on Him to work out the details of our choice.

No one can get to Heaven in their power. You need God.

Read my points below on how I know I am making it to Heaven:

  • I prayed to God to help me get to Heaven.
  • I live for Him daily as I wait on Him to help me overcome my weakness.
  • I ask God to give me power for holiness.
  • When I commit any sin, I ask for forgiveness immediately; no stalling.
  • I am constantly asking God for mercy and grace. We need both in abundance as by strength shall no man prevail.
  • When the enemy brings doubt, I rebuke him and assure him that I am God’s child because of Christ’s sacrifice.
  • I continually make effort to spend time with God daily. Read the Bible. Pray. Listen to Christian messages. Serve. Worship. The more you and I do these things, the more Christ-like we become.

So, I have faith that I will make Heaven. God loves me too much to let me go to hell. The same applies to you. As many that believed, He gave them power to become the sons of God. You have been given the power to live for God and make it to Heaven. Have faith!
