Let’s talk about insecurity!
What does insecurity mean? It means perceiving oneself as inferior in some way; a feeling that one is not good enough. It also means you don’t know yourself enough. It shows that you have focused on others more than you have on yourself.
Insecurity steals from you. It steals your joy, peace, and self-worth…the good qualities you have.
Are you insecure? Let’s find out.
You know you are insecure when:
– You constantly compare yourself to others.
– You feel like you must have everything others have in order to prove your worth.
– You tirelessly make efforts to prove your worth. (PS: you don’t have to prove what you are.)
– You never feel good enough.
– You cannot trust anyone and you are always suspicious of people.
– You helplessly need others’ validation to feel good about yourself.
– You focus too much on what others think about you.
– You blame others for your misfortune and failures.
How do you overcome insecurity?
– There’s no one God created without a purpose. Your purpose is your reason for your existence. Finding and walking in your purpose displays your relevance. Finding your relevance is a key to overcoming insecurity.
– Don’t be bogged down with the timing of your purpose; just walk in it a step at a time. Purpose is a lifetime journey. Don’t compare your timing with others. Different people, different purpose, different timing.
– Don’t compare yourself with others. DON’T! It’s a distraction and enemy of progress. While you are comparing and focused on others, they are progressing, and you are distracted from your journey and not moving forward.
– Celebrate your good qualities and accentuate them. Understand that there are things you won’t have no matter how hard you try, so why waste your energy? Focus on what’s good about you and work on what’s not. But know what you are working on; is it something you can’t change but you won’t release, like a specific insecurity? We all have them; things like height, weight, speech, or a disability of some kind. Those things do not define us. Your identity in Christ is what defines you.
– Add value to yourself. Read books. Attend seminars. Take a new class. Place your life on a steady growth plan.
– Surround yourself with positive people and minds. You don’t need be in fellowship with anyone that pulls your esteem down with their words or actions.
– Confess and say to yourself daily, “I am special; I am unique; I am God’s child; I am a wonder to many.” Keep this confession going until it resonates within you and no one can convince you otherwise!
Remember, YOU ARE SPECIAL TO GOD; that’s why He created you. Find your Creator to give meaning to your life.
