Take off your mask!

mask

What mask? Take off those coverings you have on. We live in a world where we are compelled to cover up our weaknesses and inadequacies because we fear judgment or ridicule. We rely heavily on artificial enhancements to present a good image. But then, we have the issues of the heart that linger.

We have mastered the act of pretending, putting on a facade about our true lives. We pretend we are okay when we are not. I understand you may have the mask on to shield yourself from the critical world. Others put on a mask to deceive people into believing they are someone they are not.

Why do you have your mask on? What are you covering up? A person with a mask on cannot be truly identified. The person behind the mask is not known and therefore, cannot be helped.

So, I ask you again, what are you covering up? Your failures, flaws, incompetency, inadequacies, blemishes, disappointments, defeats?

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Did the mask achieve the purpose intended?

Stop looking good for people while dying on the inside. It’s time to open up to God and just say, “I am done covering up; I need You to help me with this issue, mess, weakness,” …whatever it is. Until you open up, your deliverance is far-fetched.

Jesus knows you inside and out. He can see beyond the veil you have on. Release your failures to Him and He will turn them into testimonies.

I had my mask on many times as well, and the result was more pain and depression. Nothing changed. Though I managed to deceive others, when I was by myself, my struggles stared in my face.

God is patiently waiting for you. He said, “Come boldly to the throne of grace…” (Hebrews 4:16).

Be honest about your struggles and lay them before God. You will not experience liberation until you come to this point. Covering up only makes you feel good temporarily.

Maybe you have covered up for so long that you’ve accepted the lies about who you are. Ask God to break down every veil and wall and reach out to you.

Say this prayer: “Lord I come to you just as I am. I know I cannot hide from you; please help me. I am done playing charades; change me. Give me the grace the accept who I am as You turn my inadequacies into an advantage for my greatness. Thank you, Lord. Amen.”
