Recipe for a BETTER YOU

6

How can you be a better person? Build your character.

Let’s get straight to the point: you can be better than you are now. God created you to be great. I can understand if life’s experiences made you believe otherwise. I was in the same situation until what God’s Word said after He created the world dawned on me. Read it here: “God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good.” God made you good, you are His masterpiece. 1 Peter 2:9 proves it, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
So now that you know God created you to be the best, why hold back? You can be a better you. You can be a better pastor. You can be a better mother/father/parent, a better wife, husband, teacher, student, and worker. You can have a better marriage, a better life. You can be better in anything you do.

Whatever you are, break the tradition, break the stereotype; you can be the best in all! That’s the potential God gave you; it’s already in you. All you need to be great has already been given to you. Read 2 Peter 1:3. His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness! What an encouraging truth! How do you harness this power? You need to look to God; dig deep down with diligence to exhibit that greatness. Remember He created you to be His masterpiece from the beginning of creation!

A Masterpiece is an example of skill or excellence; a most outstanding work of God; superlative of its kind.

A better you means that you are on a journey to becoming God’s masterpiece. To be better means you STAND OUT OF MANY. It means you are pursuing an exceptional lifestyle.

There is something powerful about DETERMINATION. Determination is the unwavering ability to set your mind on a purpose or mission. It is a firmness of purpose, an act of arriving at a firm decision.

Your desire and the determination to be exceptional set the stage for your greatness. Once you have the platform, build on it with perseverance and constant discipline to fulfillment. Wishing alone will not get you anywhere; continue to strive to outdo yesterday’s achievements.

Important points on becoming a better you:

  • Vow never to be mediocre. Be determined never to rest until your good becomes better. Push yourself out of your comfort zone.
  • Know where you are and where you need to go; then set plans in place. Access your current status and accept the truth about it. Learn what you need to do to move you forward. Set your focus on who God called you to be and work toward it. Write it down and place it where you can read it daily as a reminder.
  • Know what you don’t want to become. Identify with what you aim to attain. It will keep you focused. It will help you stay clear of anything contrary to your greatness. Maybe you don’t like the way your father turned out; make plans to exceed his achievements. Learn from what others are not doing right and make that your point of action and a path to change.

You become better when you do things that make you better. How?

  • Partner with the One who created you for excellence. Walk with Him. Ask Him for help.
  • Read books about what or who you want to become. “Readers are leaders,” they say. Read to increase your knowledge.
  • Go to school if possible. Attend seminars in line with your plan (two per year is recommended).
  • Work with those of like mind. An eagle that moves with a chicken is going nowhere. The eagle will be limited and can only move and rise to the highest level a chicken can.
  • Find a credible mentor that will cheer for you, correct you, and build you up. Read and learn from those who have achieved the excellence you desire.
  • Have an improvement plan. I have a yearly plan to improve upon one or two negative character traits I possess. If I remain consistent with this plan, imagine where I will be ten years later. Try the same.
  • Discipline yourself frequently.
  • Keep your eyes steadfast on the goal and don’t give up no matter what you experience. Most people with success stories went through challenges but overcame them before they experienced their success. You can overcome as well.

My dear friend, you must be willing to pay the price for your greatness, or else you won’t be a success story. Two key words to remember – EVALUATE and ADJUST. Do you need more tips? Chat with any of our mentors today. See you at top!
