Lesson 10: God’s Presence
God is everywhere; He is omnipresent. When I gave my life to Christ, I would wait until I got home to pray or read my Bible. Once I did, I left everything I read back home until I returned to it. Not anymore. Now, I will read and meditate throughout the day. This keeps me more Christ-like and conscious that He is with me throughout the day. I throw a couple “I love you Jesus” prayers to Him and pray as the need arises. The more I practiced this, the more aware I was of His presence. God wants us to become more aware of His presence every day of our lives.
How important is God’s presence?
- When you have God’s presence, you have God’s favor.
- You will avert trouble and danger.
- God will make you know the path of life (Psalm 16:11).
- You receive preferential treatment.
- You receive strength for the journey.
- His presence is all you need. Confused? Find His presence.
A guy called Moses in the Bible knew the importance of God’s presence. He insisted that he wouldn’t make any trip without God’s presence. Read Exodus 33:12-16. Verses 15–16 say, “Then he said to Him, “If Your presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here. 16 For how then can it be known that I have found favor in Your sight, I and Your people? Is it not by Your going with us, so that we, I and Your people, may be distinguished from all the other people who are upon the face of the earth?”
Once you know the importance of God’s presence, you will not move an inch without it. God’s presence is life. For everything you do in life, crave God’s presence.
Think about this for a moment. Imagine you have the president of the United States of America with you everywhere you go. How would that benefit you? You know the answer. The God of the universe is infinitely mightier, and His presence can get you all you need.
The presence of God is all any man needs to overcome in life. God’s presence is what will distinguish you from others. You must desire and work towards being a mobile carrier of God’s presence. Don’t restrict God to a particular place and time; you need Him every day, every hour, every minute, and every second. Let the Holy Spirit guide you always.
Hints on God’s presence:
- Be mindful of God wherever you go. This practice is VERY IMPORTANT.
- Remember to regularly withdraw yourself from this fast-paced world to spend time with God. Jesus did this often (Luke 5:16).
- To enjoy God’s presence, you must be a worshipper.
- Meditate on His Word throughout the day. Just think about God and His words more often. Reflect on it and let it determine how you run your day.
- Listen up! God might be saying something to you during the course of the day. Pay attention.
- Form a habit to sense God’s presence with you always. How?
– Check for lack of peace or decreased joy.
– Check when things seem out of control in your life.
– Are you hearing God the way you normally do?
– Take caution and make changes when you notice laziness in studying and praying.
– Take notice when good things that normally happen do not happen any longer.
Let me give you a word of caution: the above characteristics are just a check. It does not always mean that God’s presence is not with you, but it is a good check.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: The presence of God is a man’s greatest asset. Pursue it!
Aim to get to the level of Psalm 42:1: “As the deer pants for the water brooks,
so my soul pants for You, O God.” You need to chase after God. Be desperate to have Him close by always.
Let me tell you what’s happening when you practice remaining in God’s presence daily. It means that you are building a powerful altar that links up directly to God. Have you not wondered why some Christians get more results with God than others? The more time you spend with God, the more you become like Him. Not only that, you get the goodness of His presence. You will have access to first-class information.
Your life’s greatness is in God; if you don’t seek Him, you won’t be the best God created you to be. Enjoy the video as you listen to the words of the singer.
